As a full and part-time fire fighter I witnessed firsthand the devastation wrought by the fires we battled. My heart went out to the families standing by in dejected silence as their homes and every possession fell to ashes.

While I went back to work at the fire department, my wife took a leave from her job and worked full time to perform the comprehensive inventory requested by our Insurance Company.
We later received the Insurance Company’s revised inventory and were startled to learn almost every original cost had been reduced and then depreciated by 10-83%.
Frustration Mounts
To receive additional payment we had to produce receipts we no longer had. We had to purchase all like items before anything would be paid on that item. So if we replaced 10 towels but had 20 listed, we couldn’t be reimbursed for any yet. Anything not replaced within a year would not be reimbursed. And no items remembered after the original inventory had been submitted would be considered.
Finally, we’d had enough. So we contacted a Law Firm. We were able to get a full settlement that included original replacement costs and 0% depreciation. More importantly, we got our lives back.
